Lippmann: “The Bundeswehr would be dependent on the economy in the event of a conflict”
The Darmstadt Rhein Main Neckar Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) is preparing for possible security policy scenarios. This is based on the Bundeswehr's assessment that Germany could become a central deployment area in the event of a NATO alliance. Southern Hesse, with its dense highway network, would be of particular strategic importance.
"In the event of a conflict, the German Armed Forces will rely on support from civil society and the private sector," explains Robert Lippmann , Managing Director of the Darmstadt Chamber of Industry and Commerce. "To be prepared, the Darmstadt Chamber of Industry and Commerce is currently surveying its member companies to determine what support they are generally capable of providing."
For this purpose, companies are contacted and asked to complete an industry-specific questionnaire . The results are fed into a nationwide database maintained by the Chambers of Industry and Commerce , which is intended to show which goods and services can be provided to support the armed forces if needed.
The survey is conducted using encrypted software . Participation is voluntary , and data is processed securely.
