The city of Darmstadt continues to work on barrier-free access
The science city of Darmstadt is continuing to push forward with the full integration of the inclusive slide at the Steinbrücker Teich playground. The new slide tower, which was opened to the public in September, has been heavily used ever since and is very popular with children and families.
Sustainable concept and diverse play options
The new play tower offers numerous climbing opportunities, including ramps, a climbing net, and a balance beam. The reuse of the former tube slide, integrated into the new playground design, is particularly noteworthy. According to Michael Kolmer, this approach underscores the city's commitment to sustainability and quality in the design of public green spaces and playgrounds.
Work on wheelchair-accessible access is underway
The necessary adjustments for wheelchair access to the inclusive slide are still pending. Despite the winter weather, this work is scheduled to be completed before the Easter holidays. The aim is to ensure barrier-free use of the play equipment on a permanent basis.
Playground for all children
“The goal is to create a playground that offers joy and fun to all children, regardless of their physical abilities,” explains Michael Kolmer, head of the parks department. The city asks for your understanding regarding the remaining work. The city will provide an update as soon as the work is completed.
