Specialist advice helps with the employment of people with disabilities
The Darmstadt Rhine-Main-Neckar Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) is now offering expert advice on inclusion . The aim is to support companies in recruiting and employing people with disabilities . This initiative is driven by the increasing shortage of skilled workers, which is shifting the focus to previously untapped potential.
In cooperation with the Hessian State Welfare Association (LWV), two inclusion advisors – Nicole Splinter and Lucy Singer – are now available as contact persons. They provide information about funding programs, offer assistance with workplace adaptations, and support the integration of people with disabilities into the workplace.
Advice on funding opportunities and accessibility
According to Dr. Marcel Walter, Head of Vocational Training at the Darmstadt Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK), people with disabilities have been too rarely recognized as skilled workers. Yet, they "often impress with their high motivation, loyalty, and reliability." The new advisory center aims to dismantle prejudices and unlock the potential of skilled workers .
According to the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK), many companies are unaware that they financial assistance for employing people with disabilities, such as subsidies for technical aids or funding for accessibility improvements . Furthermore, companies with 20 or more employees are exempt from the legally mandated compensatory levy if they fill at least five percent of their positions with severely disabled individuals.
The project is part of the statewide "Specialist Advice on Inclusion" project of the LWV Hessen (Regional Association of Hesse). In addition to the Darmstadt Chamber of Industry and Commerce, other chambers of industry and skilled crafts are also involved. The LWV Hessen sees this as an important step towards providing practical support and increasing the proportion of inclusive jobs.
