A solution for green waste disposal in Nauheim has been found
NAUHEIM – Following the discovery of the Japanese beetle in Trebur, the Gießen Regional Council issued a general order on August 25, 2025, to contain the spread of this dangerous pest. The beetle is considered a significant threat to agriculture, forestry, horticulture, and viticulture.
Trebur is classified as a "core zone" and Nauheim as a "buffer zone" due to its proximity. A solution has now been found in cooperation with the affected municipalities for the safe disposal of green waste from the buffer zone.
Central acceptance point in Nauheim
Following an inspection of the Sonnenwerk recycling center in Bischofsheim, the Gießen Regional Council confirmed that the collected storage of green waste from the buffer zone is possible there. For Nauheim, collection from the municipal depot will take place directly to Bischofsheim.
This means that the following applies with immediate effect:
- The Nauheim municipal depot is once again the central collection point for green waste (during normal opening hours).
- Only green waste and plant waste that has been shredded and is smaller than 5 cm may be placed in the organic waste bin
- Grass clippings from motorized lawnmowers (not scythes or reel mowers) may also be placed in the organic waste bin if they are smaller than 5 cm.
- The organic waste bins will continue to be emptied according to the usual schedule.
The regulation will initially apply until and including September 30 , the end of the Japanese beetle's active flight period. The municipality of Nauheim announces that it will provide timely updates on further developments in the pest control efforts.
