The outdoor swimming pool ended the season with 98,823 visits – the highest figure since the heatwave summer of 2019
The Jugenheim outdoor swimming pool ended its 2026 season with 98,823 visitors. Mayor Birgit Kannegießer announced the figure at the season's closing ceremony on September 13. A comparable number was last reached during the heatwave summer of 2019. Last year, the pool welcomed around 70,000 visitors.
The many warm and hot days this summer led to significantly higher visitor numbers. Last year, a particularly rainy July had negatively impacted attendance. "It was a truly fantastic season," Kannegießer summarized the outdoor pool's year.
Jugenheim outdoor swimming pool overcomes problems with kiosk operations
A challenge arose during the first major heat wave. The municipality terminated the contract with the new kiosk operator due to operational deficiencies. The swimming pool association then temporarily took over operations until a new operator was found in Jürgen Blümler and his team from "Bei Moppel".
At the end of the season, the mayor thanked the volunteers for their dedication. The swimming pool association also provided support in another area: since the start of the season, two large parasols, donated by the association, have been in place at the children's pool near the entrance.
The swimming pool association also celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2026. It currently has 540 members and is committed to the preservation and further development of the outdoor swimming pool.
Swimming badge day and new responsibilities for the pool management
Together with the outdoor pool team and the DLRG Pfungstadt (German Life Saving Association), the swimming pool association once again organized a swimming badge day. Children and adults were able to demonstrate their swimming skills and earn swimming badges.
For the first time this season, Jürgen Hoffmann and his team from Aqua Power were primarily responsible for managing the swimming pool. The team has been supporting the outdoor pool for 13 years.
Jürgen Pfliegensdörfer, chairman of the swimming pool association, also drew a positive conclusion at the end of the season and highlighted the cooperation: "Overall, we had a top season."
