The renovation of the B3 and the Rüdesheimer Straße/Donnersbergring intersection is expected to take three weeks
As part of the City of Darmstadt's road rehabilitation program, extensive work will begin on Monday, July 20, on Karlsruher Straße (B3) and in the area of the Rüdesheimer Straße/Donnersbergring intersection. Motorists should expect restrictions and detours until approximately Sunday, August 9.
During the construction work, Karlsruher Straße will be renovated from the southern city limits to and including the intersection of Rüdesheimer Straße and Donnersbergring. The existing asphalt surface will be milled off and replaced. Road fixtures and markings will also be renewed.
Karlsruher Straße will remain open to one lane of traffic in each direction during the construction work. Rüdesheimer Straße, however, will be completely closed to east-west traffic at the intersection. Turning from Karlsruher Straße onto Rüdesheimer Straße will not be possible during this period.
Those traveling west from the south are asked to detour via Groß-Gerauer Weg or Eschollbrücker Straße. Eastbound traffic should use Bessunger Straße or Eschollbrücker Straße.
Eastbound traffic will be diverted via Heidelberger Straße, Eschollbrücker Straße, and Haardtring. Southbound traffic will be diverted via Heidelberger Landstraße, Reuterallee, and Pfungstädter Straße. Westbound traffic will be diverted via Eschollbrücker Straße, Heidelberger Straße, and Landskronstraße. All diversions will be signposted.
Changes also to the R-Bus
The southern access to the TÜV (Technical Inspection Association), the vehicle registration office, and the supermarkets remains open. From the east, the TÜV, vehicle registration office, shopping facilities, and gas station can be reached via Rüdesheimer Straße. The median barriers on Rüdesheimer Straße will be temporarily removed for this purpose.
Public transport is also affected: The R-Bus will be diverted in both directions via Heidelberger Straße, Eschollbrücker Straße and Berliner Allee.
The Schiebelhuthweg, Südbahnhof, Haardtring, Philip-Röth-Weg, Hochschule West, and Hochschule West replacement stops will be closed during the construction work. The Holzhofallee stop on Groß-Gerauer Weg and the Hochschule stop on Berliner Allee will serve as replacements.
The sidewalks will remain open during the construction period. Pedestrians wishing to cross Karlsruher Straße or Donnersbergring will be directed via the traffic lights on Donnersbergring near house number 90.
The cost of the road construction project is approximately 250,000 euros gross.
