More than 20 members of the swimming pool association bridge the gap during the change of operator
Following the sudden closure of the previous kiosk operator at the Jugenheim swimming pool, the Association for the Preservation of the Jugenheim Swimming Pool (Verein zur Erhaltung des Jugenheimer Schwimmbades e. V.) has stepped in. More than 20 members are volunteering their time to ensure that swimmers can continue to purchase cold drinks and snacks until the new operator takes over.
Following a last-minute appeal from the board, numerous volunteers responded. The organization of the volunteer-run kiosk was shared among several people: Club chairman Jürgen Pfliegensdörfer coordinated a large part of the operation, including the shopping; Mechthild Schulz handled the cash register; and Samuel Foschum quickly created a shift schedule based on the numerous responses.
Three shifts daily staffed by volunteers
“With great flexibility, our helpers ensured that we were able to reliably staff three daily shifts of three hours each for more than ten days,” says Foschum.
Not only at the start of the hot summer holidays with large crowds, but also on the following days, the volunteers are at the kiosk. Working in pairs, they ensure that guests can buy drinks and small snacks during their visit to the outdoor pool.
“Our volunteer ‘emergency service’ cannot, of course, replace a professional kiosk operation. We are all the more pleased that the response so far has been overwhelmingly positive. Many guests are understanding and have expressly thanked the association for taking on this task at such short notice,” says Pfliegensdörfer.
In accordance with the club's purpose, the proceeds from the fundraising campaign will go directly towards the maintenance and further development of the Jugenheim swimming pool.
New operator takes over on July 8th
From July 8th, Moppel , an operator already familiar to the swimming pool community , will take over the kiosk. The usual selection of fries, ice cream, and other food and drinks will then be available again.
