The city and the traffic safety organization offer practical training for teenagers and young adults
E-scooters have become part of everyday life for many people – on the way to school, in their free time, or for short trips around town. To ensure safe riding, the city of Weiterstadt, together with the traffic safety organization, is offering a riding safety training course for schoolchildren and young adults on Tuesday, July 14th.
As the city announced, the three-hour practical training is aimed at e-scooter riders aged 14 and over. The goal is to teach them how to use the vehicles safely and responsibly.
Theory and practice on the e-scooter
“E-scooters are practical and popular – but only safe if you know how to handle them. With this training, we want to help ensure that young people travel responsibly and considerately in traffic,” explains Mayor Niklas Gehnich.
At the beginning, the participants' e-scooters will undergo a technical inspection. Afterwards, they will receive information on the physics of riding and learn why scooters can skid or tip over when braking. Additionally, the most important traffic rules for electric micro-vehicles will be explained.
In the practical part, participants practice various driving situations on a closed course and can ask questions about their vehicle.
Registration deadline: July 10th
The driver safety training will take place on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, from 2 pm to 5 pm in the Braunshardt community center.
Students and young adults aged 14 and over are eligible to participate. The participation fee is €20 and is payable on site. The registration deadline is Friday, July 10th. The registration link can be requested by email at vielfaltsbuero@weiterstadt.de
Participants must bring their own e-scooter, a helmet, and appropriate clothing. Closed shoes and long trousers are recommended. The number of participants is limited. Places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
