Modernized rooms, barrier-free facilities and a new outdoor area offer better conditions for children, professionals and families
The renovated Waldkolonie daycare center on Trierer Straße was officially reopened on Tuesday (April 29). Following extensive modernization work, the children and staff now have access to modern, accessible, and child-friendly facilities.
“With the reopening, modern and child-friendly spaces are available to the children and staff,” said Mayor Barbara Akdeniz. “Good conditions in childcare facilities are essential for education, good working conditions, and parental trust.”
City treasurer André Schellenberg also emphasized the importance of the construction project: "The renovation included modern building technology, barrier-free toilets, improved sound insulation, and an extension." Furthermore, the adjacent neighboring property has been newly landscaped and is once again freely accessible to residents.
The renovation work began in September 2022. Water damage shortly before the originally planned move-in date delayed the building's use; operations finally started in February 2025. The redesigned outdoor area has also now been opened.
“With the modernized Waldkolonie daycare center, we are further expanding the family-friendly infrastructure in the Waldkolonie district,” said Schellenberg. “This underlines the science city of Darmstadt’s commitment to a sustainable early childhood education landscape.”
