Successful inaugural offer enables new beach flags for the youth office
The first Linux café in Riedstadt , an offshoot of the established repair café , has been met with great enthusiasm. The response was so overwhelming that the donation box was overflowing . The organizers have now passed the proceeds on to the youth office of the town of Riedstadt , which was able to use them mobile beach flags for its own public relations work.
Sustainable support for switching to Linux
In early September, a Linux café was offered for the first time old town hall of Crumstadt end of support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025 , which posed problems for many users of older computers. Devices not compatible with Windows 11 seemed obsolete to many.
“ It worked very well. The hall was full and we were able to help people with the transition step by step ,” reports co-organizer Christian Lorenz . The goal of the Linux Café is the free and sustainable alternative the Linux operating system , to reuse discarded hardware, to promote digital inclusion and to avoid electronic waste .
Those interested can bring their devices to the Linux Café, get advice, or install a new system together with experienced Linux users.
Donation enables greater visibility at events
The overwhelming support was also reflected in the willingness to donate. The money raised was specifically intended youth work in Riedstadt . With the proceeds, the youth office purchased beach flags bearing the inscription "jugendbüro riedstadt ," which will ensure better visibility at future events such as the Riedstadt Children's Festival .
Youth worker Heiko Wambold expressed his sincere thanks to Christian Lorenz, Peter Philipp, Michael Klosterhalfen and Marc Gaillard from the Linux-Café for their support during the handover.

No prior knowledge is necessary. " We'll start with an introduction to Linux and then provide step-by-step support during the transition ," says Lorenz. Both beginners and participants of the first Linux Café are welcome.
The Riedstadt Repair Café starting up again in the new year. The first date is:

Then, defective small appliances such as hand mixers or kitchen radios can be repaired together – accompanied by coffee and cake .
