Darmstadt Secession exhibits works by Berlin artist Margareta Hesse
The Darmstadt Secession presents the exhibition "LIGHT CATCHERS" by Berlin artist Margareta Hesse from August 14 to October 24 at the Raum für Kunst (Space for Art) at Luisenstraße 16. The exhibition focuses on works that explore light, transparency, and space. The opening reception will be held on Friday, August 14, at 7 p.m. Dr. Katrin Weleda from the Offenbach University of Art and Design will give the introductory remarks
Light as an artistic design element
For more than 20 years, Margareta Hesse has explored the theme of light in her work. Her pieces feature multi-layered compositions on semi-transparent polyester panels that change depending on the viewing angle. Luminous neon colors meet dark, transparent surfaces, creating ever-evolving spatial impressions.
Another focus of the exhibition is Hesse's laser light installations. Since 2008, the artist has been developing site-specific works that transform historical buildings and unusual spaces into immersive light art. Documentary videos showcase installations created at locations including the Mathildenhöhe in Darmstadt, as well as in Tunis, Mantua, and Lisbon.
Laser objects and light installations
The exhibition is complemented by large-format photographs of the installation in the Church of the Redeemer in Lüdenscheid, as well as by more recent laser objects made of black glass. Also on display is the work "Caged Light I,"in which laser light, fog, and movement merge into a constantly changing light show.
The exhibition is Thursdays and Fridays from 4 pm to 7 pm and Saturdays from 12 pm to 3 pm .
