Regional planning, municipal budgets and noise action planning were the main topics at the meeting with District President Jan Hilligardt
Regional President Prof. Dr. Jan Hilligardt and Vice President Dr. Stefan Fuhrmann welcomed mayors from southern Hesse to the Darmstadt Regional Council for a professional exchange. The meeting focused on current issues affecting both the state and local authorities.
The agenda included regional planning, the strained state of municipal budgets, and the current status of noise action planning. Furthermore, the regional council provided information on ongoing permitting procedures and the cooperation between the cities and municipalities and the three environmental departments, as well as the nature conservation and occupational safety departments.
Hilligardt: Shared tasks for a strong southern Hesse
Regional President Hilligardt emphasized the importance of regular direct exchange between the regional government and the municipalities.
“It is important for us to maintain a constant exchange with those responsible from the municipalities in southern Hesse. Therefore, I am pleased that so many representatives have come to Darmstadt today,” Hilligardt explained.
Cooperation between the state and local levels is of particular importance given the numerous shared tasks. "The close integration of the state and local levels is a key element in tackling the many common issues and tasks for a strong South Hesse together," said the Regional President.
184 cities and municipalities in the administrative district
The Darmstadt administrative district comprises a total of 184 cities and municipalities and extends far beyond the immediate Darmstadt region. According to the regional government, approximately two-thirds of Hesse's population lives within the district.
The Darmstadt Regional Council (RP Darmstadt) undertakes numerous tasks at the interface between the state of Hesse and its municipalities. The exchange with the mayors is intended to help discuss current issues early on and strengthen cooperation on joint tasks.
