Students produce a creative video focusing on addiction prevention
As the City of Darmstadt reports, seventh-grade students from the Justus Liebig School released a short video on the topic of "consumption." The project was supervised by the media educator from the city's youth welfare office and the addiction prevention unit of Netzwerk ROPE e.V. The video can be viewed on YouTube at: youtube
Consumer experiences from the perspective of young people
During the workshop, the young people explored how consumption shapes their everyday lives, what experiences they associate with it, and which places in Darmstadt play a role for them. The project aimed to meet young people where they are in their lives and give them space for their own forms of expression. A particular focus was placed on addiction prevention.
Akdeniz: "Prevention work strengthens young people in their decisions"
Mayor and Head of Children and Youth Services Barbara Akdeniz emphasizes that young people today are exposed to a wide range of consumer options – from fashion and technology to digital media and substances such as alcohol, nicotine, and cannabis. Prevention efforts should make risks visible, strengthen decision-making skills, and impart important life skills.
Creative perspective as a pedagogical approach
Working on the mini-clip allowed the students to artistically express their own perceptions – not as dictated by adults, but authentically from their own perspective. The clip shows how thoughtfully young people deal with consumer issues and how important it is to give them space to participate.
School as an important place for prevention
The Justus Liebig School and the participating agencies view the project as a successful example of modern and practical addiction prevention. Schools, youth centers, and clubs are important places to sustainably empower young people in dealing with consumer offerings.
