Old devices and SD cards can be dropped off at the forum
In Seeheim-Jugenheim there is a new option for the sustainable disposal of old devices: Collection containers for used mobile phones and SD cards have been set up in the entrance area of the forum at the town hall.
Items can be dropped off during the opening hours of the citizens' office. Mobile phones and memory cards can be deposited – SIM cards are excluded.
Recycling and reuse
The collected mobile phones are recycled by Azur GmbH. The SD cards go to the Audiopedia Foundation, which loads them with educational content in approximately 80 languages.
The content is aimed particularly at women and covers topics such as health, family planning, rights, finances, and agriculture. The maps thus become important sources of information for many of the world's approximately 500 million illiterate women.
Initiative through local cooperation
The collection was initiated by the Soroptimist International Club Seeheim-Jugenheim. The containers were first used as part of the exhibition "Coltan is not toothpaste," which was shown in the Forum in March.
Coltan is a key raw material for the production of electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, and electric cars. The collection aims to help reuse valuable resources while simultaneously raising awareness of global interconnections.
