New association founded – cinema opening planned for June
The Weiterstadt municipal cinema is returning after a long hiatus. Following renovations at the community center and structural changes, regular cinema operations are scheduled to resume in June.
New association supports the future of cinema
As part of the restructuring, the non-profit "KoKi Kommunales Kino GmbH" was already founded. Now the volunteers have also organized themselves into their own association.
The new association is called Film- & Kinokultur Weiterstadt eV and sees itself as an umbrella organization for various cinema formats such as children's cinema, open-air cinema, queer film festival and summer cinema.
The founding date of May 9th was deliberately chosen: On this day, Jochen Pollitt, the co-founder of the municipal cinema who passed away in January, would have turned 72 years old.
Great response to the club's founding
Around 30 employees and supporters came together for the founding meeting. In addition to long-standing volunteers, new people interested in the cinema's realignment also participated.
Dominik Paulus, Andreas Heidenreich, Sabine Schreiber, Jörg Hermann and Harry Hütten were elected to the board of the association.
Anniversaries and a new program are planned
Several major events are planned for the relaunch. These include the 50th Open-Air Film Festival and the 30th Queer Film Festival.
The new cinema program will build on the thematic priorities of Jochen Pollitt. It will include international films from different continents, queer cinema, films addressing socio-political issues, environmental films, and productions for different age groups.
Preparations are already underway for the summer cinema in the castle park.
