Mayor Hanno Benz speaks in the funeral hall at the cemetery
On Sunday, November 16, 2025 a memorial service for the National Day of Mourning will take place at 3:30 p.m. in the Eberstadt cemetery . The event is organized by the Darmstadt-Eberstadt district administration and the VdK Hessen-Thüringen social welfare association, Eberstadt local chapter . The bells of the Protestant and Catholic churches in Eberstadt will ring 3:25 p.m.
The memorial service begins in the funeral hall and will feature musical accompaniment by Larissa Dzialas on the organ. Following a welcome address by District Administrator Ludwig Achenbach, Mayor Hanno Benz will deliver the commemorative speech on behalf of the City of Science, Darmstadt . The Frohsinn 1842 Eberstadt Choral Society will perform the hymn "Lord, Your Goodness Reaches So Far .
Later, Christine Braxton , chairwoman of the VdK Eberstadt, will deliver the memorial address on behalf of the association . The prayer service for the deceased will be led by Father Christoph Nowak (St. Joseph/St. George Catholic Parish).
The Frohsinn Choir will also Irish blessings .
Afterwards, the group will proceed together to the war cemetery , where wreaths will be laid. The event concludes with this act of silent remembrance.
