Commemorative event on November 9th sends a message against hatred and xenophobia
Groß-Gerau. To commemorate the Reichspogromnacht of 1938, the town of Groß-Gerau, together with its local churches, all citizens to participate in a memorial service on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at 6 p.m.The commemoration is intended to send a clear message against xenophobia, antisemitism, and right-wing extremism .
The event begins in front of the Groß-Gerau City Museum and proceeds with a silent march to the memorial site of the former synagogue in Adolf-Göbel-Straße, where speeches will follow.
Remembrance and Responsibility
“The Kristallnacht pogrom of 1938 is a dark chapter in our history. The memory of it must be preserved, and we will continue to stand firmly against hatred and prejudice,” explains Mayor Jörg Rüddenklau.
He emphasizes: “Our commemoration should not only remember the victims but also serve as a warning for the present. Let us work together for a society characterized by tolerance, diversity, and respect .”
A warning for the present
The night of November 9-10, 1938, known as Kristallnacht, marks one of the darkest chapters in German history. Under the Nazi regime, synagogues were set on fire, Jewish businesses and homes were destroyed, property was looted, and Jews were brutally persecuted.
The memorial event in Groß-Gerau commemorates the victims of these acts of violence – and calls for decisive action against xenophobia and anti-Semitism.
