Matthias Neumann returns to SV Darmstadt 98
SV Darmstadt 98 welcomes a familiar face to a new role as they begin their preparations for the second half of the season. Matthias Neumann has taken over as Head of the Professional Players Department. The 34-year-old previously worked for the Lilies for a total of eight years, from 2017 to 2025, before assuming the position of Head of Professional Players at 1. FC Kaiserslautern in June 2025.
Returning with a wealth of experience and club knowledge
Sporting director Paul Fernie is convinced of Neumann's return:
"With Matthias, we are gaining back an employee who has always done outstanding work during his years with the Lilies. He possesses a broad knowledge of the processes and a very good feel for the different personalities within the professional player area and will therefore act as an organizer and as a liaison between the different departments and the office."
Neumann: "My connection to Darmstadt has never been broken"
Matthias Neumann is also looking forward to his new task with great motivation:
“I am very much looking forward to returning to the Bölle. To be honest, I didn't expect to be working for the Lilies again so soon in the summer, but after the initial contact and the first talks, it quickly became clear to me that I wanted to seize this opportunity.”
He has known many of the staff and players for years, which is why he doesn't need a longer settling-in period.
Already in action for the Lilies
Matthias Neumann has already started his work and is also accompanying the team to the training camp in El Saler.
