New inclusive service supports people with Parkinson's disease or after a stroke
VfR Eberstadt is expanding its social sports program with a special project: Starting in September, free neurocentric boxing training for people with Parkinson's disease or after a stroke will begin on the club grounds at Nußbaumallee.
The club has been under new leadership for over a year and, under the chairmanship of Hannes Marb, is increasingly focusing on social inclusion. According to the club, the three letters VfR now stand more than ever for diversity, fair play, and respect. The aim is to reimagine social sports in the Eberstadt-Süd district and expand its offerings with additional programs.
The club already makes its sports facilities available to educational institutions. Primary schools, special needs schools, and the comprehensive school in Eberstadt can hold their physical education classes free of charge on the club grounds. Daycare centers and after-school programs can also use the facilities on Nußbaumallee free of charge.
Targeted training of brain, coordination and movement
A new offering, the "Center for Neurocentric Boxing Training," will launch in September. The training concept was developed by Hannes Marb, world champion in kickboxing point fighting. Together with Thomas Dick and 1APersonal, he is creating a free, weekly training session.
Neurocentric boxing does not focus on classic competitive elements. Rather, it aims to activate specific brain areas through targeted exercises, which are important for balance, coordination, and movement safety, among other things.
The inclusive program is designed so that people who cannot stand for extended periods or who use a wheelchair can also participate. Depending on the weather, training takes place either in the clubhouse or as circuit training on the club grounds.
Mayor Hanno Benz welcomes the project as a valuable addition to social sports in the science city of Darmstadt. The sustainable program is primarily aimed at those affected in Eberstadt, but is also open to people from Darmstadt and the entire region.
