A program in Riedstadt-Erfelden brings together people aged 70 and over
Playing games, chatting, making new contacts and spending time together: Under the title "Enjoying community", a new free meeting place for people aged 70 and over will start on Monday, August 17th in Riedstadt-Erfelden.
This initiative is made possible through a collaboration between the Riedstadt and Stockstadt advisory centers for senior citizens, the Groß-Gerau sports association, and SKG Erfelden. The aim is to bring older people together, promote social interaction, and prevent loneliness.
In the youth room of SKG Erfelden, classic games like "Ludo", Yahtzee, and Mikado await the participants. Coffee, mineral water, and pastries are also provided.
“It has long been important to me to reach people before they become dependent on care,” explains Stefanie Drozdzynski, head of the advisory center for older people in Riedstadt and Stockstadt. Prevention and healthy aging are important topics – especially building social contacts.
Movement, conversations and community
The idea originated in collaboration with the Groß-Gerau sports association. Its chairman, Dr. Eckhardt Stein, aims to "get older people moving and take a stand against loneliness" with the project. The partners had already successfully collaborated on an everyday fitness test last year.
SKG Erfelden is also supporting the project. In addition to games and discussions, Chris Ganster, head of the fitness and health sports division at SKG, will offer short exercise sessions. If the hall is available, it can also be used.
Ottmar Eberling, chairman of SKG Erfelden, points out that the premises are wheelchair accessible and include a disabled toilet. The meeting is run by volunteers Anke Eberling (SKG) and Dagmar Maarschalkerweerd (advice center).
The offer is expressly aimed at non-members and interested parties from all districts of Riedstadt.
The ten weekly meetings will take place every Monday from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm, starting on August 17th, in the youth room of SKG Erfelden, Rheinallee 42.
Since the number of participants is limited, registration is required at the senior citizens' advisory center by telephone at 06158 / 82257310 or by email to info@beratungsstelle-riedstadt.de.
