Readings, exhibition and reading marathon in Darmstadt
The German-Polish Institute to the Night of the Libraries on April 4, 2025 , offering a diverse program focused on literature, art, and Polish culture . The event will take place at Darmstadt Palace , where the institute has been located for the past nine years. A particular highlight will be the institute's specialized library , whose collection on Poland makes it one of the most important of its kind in Germany.
A literary adventure for children
The event kicks off at 6:00 PM with a reading of the children's book "Dachshund Dachshund in Warsaw" by Matthias Kneip , moderated by Karolina Walczyk-Rosar . The story tells of a little dachshund who accidentally travels to Warsaw by train and experiences exciting adventures there – from language challenges to a thrilling search for a missing cat.
A look behind famous cover illustrations
At 7:30 p.m., Andrzej Kaluza will give a guided tour of the exhibition "REVELATIONS. Paintings and Covers by Wiesław Smętek ." The Polish artist has created cover illustrations for renowned German magazines such as Die Zeit, Stern, Spiegel, Geo, Cicero , and Handelsblatt . His work is characterized by precise, pointed commentary on politics, society, and culture and has become firmly established in the German press landscape.
Reading marathon: Energetic Polish literature
Starting at 9:00 p.m. the "Energy Books" reading marathon , dedicated to the German-Polish Institute's of energy rockets, robots, and future technologies .
Book flea market throughout the event
A large book flea market starting at 6:00 PM . Visitors have the opportunity to discover and purchase used books at bargain prices.
The Night of the Libraries thus offers a diverse program for literature enthusiasts of all ages – from exciting children's books to visually impressive art and visionary works of Polish literature.
