City reacts to closure of the Woog due to blue-green algae infestation
Following the temporary closure of the Darmstadt Woog lake due to a blue-green algae bloom, the city of Darmstadt is offering an alternative to Woog season ticket holders. For the duration of the closure, they will receive discounted admission to the Nordbad swimming pool upon presentation of their season ticket.
Mayor Hanno Benz announced this on Thursday afternoon. The measure is intended to allow regular visitors to the Woog outdoor swimming pool to continue using the city's facilities during the closure.
The Woog lake was closed to swimming on Thursday morning as a precautionary measure after a blue-green algae bloom was detected. The sunbathing areas, children's pool, and showers remain open and are free of charge.
The city of Darmstadt will provide ongoing updates on further developments and a possible reopening date for the bathing area.
