Works by Bach, Mendelssohn and Widor in the St. Josef church on June 15th
The Darmstadt organist and music teacher Burkhard Engelke to a special organ concert in the St. Josef church in Eberstadt on Sunday, June 15, 2025 The start is at 7 p.m. , admission is free.
The concert combines five important works from baroque and romance . The listeners can expect an exciting cross-section through the orgell literature: from Johann Sebastian Bach to Charles-Marie Widor.
Program with works from baroque and romance
At the beginning, the sonata in G minor by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach , one of the best-known Bach sons and musical pioneers from the early classic. Two of the six late organ sonatas by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy form another focus of the concert. These works - like the compositions of Johann Sebastian Bach - are part of the core repertoire of organ music .
The well-known imagination in G major by Johann Sebastian Bach is considered one of the most beautiful and original creations by the composer for organ. By Georg Böhm , a representative of the northern German organ school, the Partita Sopra "Jesus, you are too beautiful" listed. Böhm is considered the influential figure for the early organization of Johann Sebastian Bach.
The end of the second sentence from the 5th organ information in F minor by Charles-Marie Widor , which has decisively shaped French organ literature with his ten organ infonations. The selected sentence has an elegiac character and exemplifies for Widor's claim to transfer the sound world of orchestra infonities to the organ.
About the interpreter
Burkhard Engelke studied organ, choir and orchestral management. His music education work is particularly true of organ and piano lessons. In addition to his work as a lecturer in the diocese of Mainz, he also heads the Kantorei Darmstadt-Arheilgen .
