Citizens can participate until July 15th – the environmental office's initiative aims to strengthen the biodiversity strategy
The science city of Darmstadt invites active participation in a municipal biodiversity strategy through its "Space for Biodiversity" campaign . The aim is to collect creative ideas and observations on biodiversity within the city limits and thereby promote the protection of native habitats.
Participate via app: Document animals, plants and fungi
Using the iNaturalist app , citizens can now upload photos of animals, plants, or fungi and participate in the "Space for Biodiversity" project. This will create a digital documentation of biodiversity in Darmstadt. Additionally, users can submit their own suggestions for conservation measures via the app or email . Particularly successful contributions will be awarded prizes by a jury after the project ends on July 15th
Basis for municipal biodiversity strategy
The collected data and ideas will be directly incorporated into the municipal biodiversity strategy , which is currently being developed jointly with the administration, scientists, and the city's residents. This strategy aims to demonstrate, in the long term, how sustainable species conservation can be implemented in the city .
Environmental Officer Kolmer: Diversity protects our quality of life
Environmental Officer Michael Kolmer emphasizes:
“Biodiversity is the foundation for a healthy and livable Darmstadt. With our campaign, we want to raise awareness that plants and animals also need space. I am excited to see the contributions and would like to encourage everyone to go in search of our city's treasures.”
