Exhibition opening for European Week on April 30 / Cooperation with partner city Tauragė
As part of the European Weeks, the city of Riedstadt is showcasing photographic art from its Lithuanian twin city, Tauragė. On Wednesday, April 30th, at 6:30 p.m., an exhibition by the photographer Vytautas Butkus will open at the art gallery in the Büchnerhaus. The artist lives in Tauragė and combines landscape and architectural photography with striking portraits of rural and urban environments – both from Lithuania and from his international travels.
Butkus has exhibited his works in Lithuania, Poland, Kaliningrad, and the USA. He has received numerous awards for his work, most recently in 2023 with a prize from the Lithuanian Ministry of the Environment at the international competition "Thoughts of the Living Earth".
The exhibition is a collaboration between the city's cultural office, the partnership association "Friends of Tauragė," the partner association "Friends of Germany" in Tauragė, and the European Network Hesse. The works are accessible during the opening hours of the cultural office (Monday to Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.) and the Büchner House (Thursday to Sunday, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.).
In addition, from May 17th, the Goddelau outdoor swimming pool will present an exhibition of large-format insect photographs by another Lithuanian artist as part of the swimming pool opening.
