As part of the "Safe City Center" program, the police are using horses in the Herrngarten park for the first time – drugs were found and cash was seized
During checks carried out as part of the "Safe City Center" on Monday, October 5, police initiated several investigations. Between 10:00 a.m. and 7:15 p.m., officers checked the identities of individuals in the Herrngarten park and other areas of Darmstadt's city center.
For the first time, police horses were deployed in the Herrngarten park, according to police reports. The mounted unit was intended to give officers a better overview of the extensive grounds. Also involved were officers from the Wiesbaden riot police and plainclothes detectives from the South Hesse Police Headquarters.
Drugs found on five people
During checks in the Herrngarten park, officers found narcotics on five people, according to their own statement. A 32-year-old man was also suspected of dealing the drugs. He was taken into custody and was to be brought before a judge.
Criminal proceedings were initiated against the individuals who were checked, including on suspicion of violations of the Narcotics Act.
Two other men, aged 28 and 30, were unable to produce either a passport or a valid residence permit during the check, according to police. Criminal proceedings have been initiated against both on suspicion of violating immigration law.
Cash seized from 54-year-old woman
Police found a large sum of cash on a 54-year-old woman. According to the police, the woman was unable to provide a plausible explanation for its origin during the search. Because officers suspected the money might have been obtained illegally, it was seized as a precautionary measure.
Further checks took place in the parking garage area and in the Martinsviertel district. According to the police, no violations were found there.
