The science city of Darmstadt invites residents of Wixhausen, Arheilgen and Kranichstein to an exchange about aircraft noise and monitoring results
The City of Darmstadt invites residents to a public meeting on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, regarding the Cindy S . This information and discussion event is aimed at residents of Wixhausen, Arheilgen, and Kranichstein who are affected by the flight path. It will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Bürgermeister-Pohl-Haus in Wixhausen.
The background to this is the rerouting of the departure route, which has been implemented on a trial basis since July 10, 2025. This measure is accompanied by monitoring, the results of which – including noise measurements in Wixhausen and Arheilgen – were already presented in June. The evaluation of the monitoring is intended to form a key basis for the flight noise commission's decision on the future of the flight route by the end of 2026.
Monitoring results and citizen questions are the focus
The event will serve to explain and jointly evaluate the existing measurement data. Experts from the institutions involved in the monitoring will present the results and answer questions from the public.
Mayor Hanno Benz and Environmental Officer Michael Kolmer emphasize the importance of open dialogue: The goal is to address the public's need for information and simultaneously gather feedback from the affected neighborhoods. Questions collected by the Wixhausen local council will also be incorporated into the discussion.
According to the city, the effects of the altered flight path vary significantly depending on the district and residential location. Therefore, another focus of the event will be the nighttime noise pollution caused by heavy aircraft on departure route Cindy S.
Further participation planned throughout the year
In addition to the public meeting, the City of Darmstadt plans to inform the Wixhausen local council, the Arheilgen district forum, and the Kranichstein district group about the current status later this year. Furthermore, a detailed report is being prepared for the city council.
Further information about the public event will be published after the Hessian summer holidays.
