Long-time chairman of the "Friends of Tauragė" has passed away
The community of Riedstadt, the birthplace of Büchner, is deeply saddened: Klaus Minter , long-time chairman of the partnership association "Friends of Tauragė ," passed away on December 26, 2025. Mayor Marcus Kretschmann paid tribute to him as a humanitarian who dedicated himself to the town twinning for decades with extraordinary commitment.
Commitment to the town twinning since the beginning
Since the signing of the twinning agreements in Riedstadt in 1993 and in Tauragė in 1994, Klaus Minter has been a key figure in the partnership with the Lithuanian city. For many years, he was actively involved, initially as deputy chairman, before assuming the chairmanship of the association in 2012 following the death of the founding chairman, Ernst Klaus
Under his leadership, the town twinning was continuously brought to life and placed on a stable, personal basis.
Commitment to helping people in difficult life situations
Klaus Minter was particularly concerned about the people of Tauragė themselves – especially children, the sick, and the elderly . Even as his own health declined, he continued to dedicate himself wholeheartedly to social projects and aid.
“The people of Tauragė were truly close to his heart. Even when his health was failing, he dedicated himself to them with all the strength he still possessed. With his passing, we lose a humanitarian who contributed immeasurably to this special town twinning,” said Mayor Marcus Kretschmann .
For his services, Klaus Minter was the honorary certificate of the city of Riedstadt in 2018 .
High recognition also in Lithuania
There is also great sadness in the twin town of Tauragė. Klaus Minter was an honorary citizen of Tauragė in 2019 25th anniversary of the town twinning .
He received special recognition in March 2025 when the President of the Republic of Lithuania awarded him the Lithuanian Order of Merit Vilnius – one of the country's highest state awards.
