Warmth, exchange and European unity in the twin city
A delegation from Riedstadt at the large town festival in the Lithuanian twin town of Tauragė First City Councillor Ottmar Eberling traveled to Lithuania on behalf of Mayor Marcus Kretschmann – accompanied by members of the twinning association “Friends of Tauragė” , including the association's chairman and Tauragė's honorary citizen Klaus Minter .
Encounters in the spirit of town twinning
Tauragė's nine partner cities met . "This was particularly nice because we were able to have intensive discussions outside of official protocol on the evening of our arrival," said Eberling. The spirit of European unity was palpable in Tauragė – also with regard to the German Brigade currently stationed in Lithuania. "We experienced a great deal of gratitude for this," Eberling reported.
A particularly friendly exchange took place with Vilius Petrauskas , the chairman of the Lithuanian partnership association “Germany’s Friends in Tauragė” .
Reception at the castle and visitor program
The highlight of the official program was a reception hosted by Tauragė's mayor, Dovydas Kaminskas, at the town's historic castle. In addition to attending the town festival, a diverse program of activities was on the agenda. The delegation from Riedstadt took the opportunity to Tauragė's large music school and exchange ideas with other delegations.
The town twinning between Riedstadt and Tauragė has existed since 1993 and has been actively maintained ever since – through mutual visits, cultural exchange and civil society engagement.
