The German Red Cross and the traffic safety organization demonstrate safe handling in everyday life
How do you adjust a rollator correctly? How do you safely get on and off buses and trams? Answers to these and other questions will be provided at a free rollator training session on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at the German Red Cross (DRK) day center in Eberstadt. The session will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and is organized in cooperation with the Hessian Traffic Safety Association in Darmstadt.
This training is aimed at older people who want to be mobile and safe in their daily lives using a rollator. Participants are asked to bring their own rollator.
Rollators are professionally inspected
At the start of the training, each participant's rollator is checked and readjusted if necessary. According to the German Red Cross (DRK), even an incorrect handle height can lead to tension or pain.
Afterwards, typical everyday situations can be practiced in a course. These include, for example, safely turning around in an elevator and getting on and off buses and trams. In addition to practical tips for road traffic, there will also be ample opportunity for participants to exchange experiences.
At the end, participants receive a "rollator driver's license" as well as the reflective hippopotamus "Willi Wacham", which is intended to improve visibility in the dark.
Advice for interested parties and relatives
The rollator training also offers an opportunity to learn about the German Red Cross (DRK) day center in Eberstadt and its services. During the event, interested individuals and their families can speak with Petra Dell Missier from the social services department.
Among other things, questions about respite care services and support options for people in need of assistance can be discussed. Day care aims to provide those requiring care with a varied daily routine in a social setting, while simultaneously relieving the burden on family caregivers.
