Operation “Safe City Center”: Drugs, bicycle and ID card seized
During checks carried out as part of the "Safe City Center" initiative, police in Darmstadt checked 15 people on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, in the Herrngarten park and the surrounding streets. Among other things, narcotics, a bicycle, and a stolen identity card were seized.
The operation, which took place between noon and 6 p.m., involved officers from the South Hesse Police Headquarters and members of the Hessian riot police. According to the police, several investigations were launched as a result of the checks.
Crack and bicycle found on 38-year-old
Police found crack cocaine on a 38-year-old man. He was also in possession of a bicycle for which he could not provide proof of ownership. Since he could not provide any credible information about the bicycle's origin, the bike was confiscated.
Further investigation revealed that the man did not possess a valid residence permit. He was taken to the police station. Several investigations have been initiated against him.
A 29-year-old man was found to be in possession of an identity card that had been reported stolen. Police are now investigating him on suspicion of receiving stolen goods.
More drugs seized during checks
In three other cases, proceedings were initiated for violations of the narcotics law. Officers seized cocaine from a 33-year-old man. According to police, two men, aged 42 and 27, were found to be in possession of crack cocaine.
According to police, the 27-year-old also did not have a valid residence permit. Therefore, further criminal proceedings were initiated against him.
