Expansion in Darmstadt-Kranichstein is scheduled to be completed by December
The expansion of Jägertorstraße in Darmstadt-Kranichstein is entering its final construction phase. According to the City of Darmstadt, the current section between the entrance to the Lidl supermarket and Kranichsteiner Straße will be completed by mid-August. Work on the final section, between Elisabeth-Hattemer-Straße and Kranichsteiner Straße , is expected to begin on Monday, August 17th . Completion is scheduled for December 2026 .
“With the start of the final construction phase, the completion of an important infrastructure project for Kranichstein is drawing near. Once finished, Jägertorstraße will better meet the requirements of a modern and safe traffic connection – with new sidewalks, a continuous cycle route and an upgraded streetscape,” explains Head of Transport Paul Georg Wandrey.
With the start of the final construction phase, the current full closure of Kranichsteiner Straße between Jägertorstraße and Bartningstraße will be lifted. This also eliminates the previous detour via Bartningstraße, Siemensstraße, and Jägertorstraße. Going forward, car traffic will again be diverted via Bartningstraße. Access to the Lidl supermarket will only be possible via Kranichsteiner Straße during the construction work.
A safe and signposted route will be set up for pedestrians and cyclists along the construction site. From the Lidl supermarket, the detour will follow the connecting path between the supermarket and the Bauverein AG property to Kranichsteiner Straße.
Bus services are also affected: The "Siemensstraße" stop will be relocated to the Kranichsteiner Straße/Pfannmüllerweg and Kranichsteiner Straße/Bartningstraße junctions during the construction work .
After completion of the work, Jägertorstraße should be fully opened to traffic before Christmas 2026.
