Eliminated youngsters from Darmstadt near Hergershausen into nature - cooperation with Hgon and the regional council
Darmstadt/Hergershausen. Two veil owls hatched the Vivarium Darmstadt zoo were successfully released in the district of Darmstadt-Dieburg in July 2025. The young birds from the breeding of the Darmstadt zoo were brought to a natural brood near Hergershausen - a proven method to strengthen very threatened bird species
The release took place in cooperation with the Hessian Society for Ornithology and Nature Conservation (HGON) and the Darmstadt Department , Department for Agriculture, Fishing and International Broadcast Protection. The Vivarium Zoo is thus actively contributing to regional species protection in South Hesse .
Agency by 90 percent - Vivarium Zoo has been involved in decades
particularly endangered species in Hesse . Its stock has decreased by around 90 percent . The Vivarium Zoo has been breeding the animals for many years and regularly provides animals for outsourcing programs.
Since 1982 a total of 53 veils that have been hatched in the Vivarium Zoo have been released into nature:
- 42 of them in South Hesse
- 8 in the Westerwald
- 3 in the Aachen area
The two young animals hatched in May 2025 are now reinforcing the wildlife population directly in front of Darmstadt's front door.
