Traffic restrictions in the city center during the festival
Due to the Schlossgrabenfest (Castle Moat Festival), there will be extensive road closures and traffic changes in Darmstadt. Organizers advise visitors and residents to allow extra time for their journeys.
These streets are affected
The following areas in the city center will be completely closed off:
- Cityring (Holzstraße, Schlossgraben, Zeughausstraße) between Pädagogstraße and Schleiermacherstraße
- Landgraf-Georg-Straße between Pützerstraße and Schlossgraben
- Alexanderstraße between Magdalenenstraße and Zeughausstraße
Overview of curfew times
The closures will be in effect at the following times:
- Thursday, May 21, 5 p.m. to Friday, May 22, 5 a.m
- Friday, May 22, 4 p.m. to Saturday, May 23, 5 a.m
- Saturday, May 23, 2 p.m. to Monday, May 25, 8 p.m
Depending on the traffic situation, the measures may also begin earlier on the orders of the police.
Access to castle garages is not possible
During the aforementioned periods, access to the castle garages will be completely blocked.
Traffic diversions
The following diversion routes are in place for traffic coming from the east:
- Landgraf-Georg-Straße via Teichhausstraße to Nieder-Ramstädter Straße
- Landgraf-Georg-Straße via Pützerstraße, Heinheimer Straße and Rhönring
Parking garages remain accessible
Some parking options remain accessible despite the restrictions:
- Parking garages at the City Tunnel via Frankfurter Straße and Mathildenplatz
- Parking garage at the Darmstadtium via Alexanderstrasse
Travel recommendation
The organizers recommend using public transport whenever possible to avoid traffic problems in the city center.
