Competition from 7 to 27 September promotes climate protection and health
"School Cycling" competition will take place in Hesse from September 7 to 27, 2025. Students, teachers, and parents in Darmstadt are also encouraged to cycle as many kilometers as possible during this period. The goal is to promote climate protection and sustainable mobility – while also improving their own health.
"School cycling is a wonderful initiative that not only promotes the health of students but also raises their awareness of sustainable mobility. We will therefore send an invitation to all Darmstadt schools," emphasize School Department Head Holger Klötzner and Mobility Department Head Paul Georg Wandrey .
Prizes and awards
The following will be honored:
- the most active primary and secondary school
- the largest team
- the school with the most active cyclists
- the best bicycle campaign around “Bicycle & School”
In addition, a musical performance awarded, with the winners performing live at the closing event. The deadline for all competition entries is October 1, 2025 .
Organization and participation
In Hesse, the “School Cycling” event is organized by the Society for Integrated Transport and Mobility Management (ivm) as part of the nationwide CITY CYCLING of the Climate Alliance.

The local awards ceremony for the most active schools will take place on December 12, 2025. The statewide winners will be honored by the Hessian Minister of Transport at the end of the year.
