Competition from September 7th to 27th promotes climate protection and health
"School Cycling" competition will take place in Hesse from September 7th to 27th, 2025. Students, teachers, and parents in Darmstadt are also encouraged to cycle as many kilometers as possible during this period. The goal is to promote climate protection and sustainable mobility – while simultaneously improving personal health.
“School cycling is a wonderful initiative that not only promotes the health of students but also strengthens their awareness of sustainable mobility. We will therefore send an invitation to all schools in Darmstadt,” emphasize School Superintendent Holger Klötzner and Mobility Superintendent Paul Georg Wandrey .
Prizes and awards
The following will be awarded:
- the most active primary and secondary school
- the largest team
- the school with the most active cyclists
- the best cycling campaign around “Bicycle & School”
In addition, a musical performance awarded a prize – the winners will perform live at the closing event. The deadline for all competition entries is October 1, 2025 .
Organization and participation
The “school cycling” campaign in Hesse is organized by the Society for Integrated Transport and Mobility Management (ivm) STADTRADELN campaign of the Climate Alliance eV.

The local awards ceremony for the most active schools will take place on December 12, 2025. The statewide winners will be honored by the Hessian Minister of Transport at the end of the year.
