Darmstadt and the Darmstadt-Dieburg district promote environmentally friendly school mobility
The city of Darmstadt and the district of Darmstadt-Dieburg "School Cycling" competition and the "Walk to School" . For years, these two initiatives have promoted independent and environmentally friendly mobility for children and young people on their way to school and during their leisure time.
“We are delighted that so many schools, students, teachers and parents responded to the call to participate again this year. Together, we have made an important contribution to sustainable mobility,” explained School Superintendent Holger Klötzner and Transport Superintendent Paul Georg Wandrey .
Significantly more kilometers cycled to school
Sixteen schools from Darmstadt and the surrounding district participated "School Cycling" competition cycled 140,894.9 kilometers 10,000 kilometers more than the previous year . The achievements were recognized in three categories:
Most cycling-active school (total kilometers):
- Lichtenberg School: 33,524.7 kilometers
- Ludwig-Georgs-Gymnasium: 33,181.3 kilometers
- Eleanor School: 22,980.8 kilometers
Largest team:
The Free Montessori School Darmstadt provided the largest team with 29.9 percent of the total number of students.
Most active cyclists:
The Bertolt Brecht School achieved the highest value of all participating schools with an average of 407.3 kilometers per person.
The winning schools received certificates and checks for €200 , presented by Head of Transport Wandrey. He emphasized the importance of sustainable mobility in everyday school life and thanked everyone involved for their commitment.
The School and Mobility Network supports activities
Both initiatives are supported by the School and Mobility Network , in which various stakeholders from the fields of education and transportation collaborate. The network receives support from ivm GmbH (Gesellschaft für integriertes Mobilitäts- und Verkehrsmanagement Region Frankfurt RheinMain), which coordinates the School Cycling throughout Hesse.
The city of Darmstadt and the district of Darmstadt-Dieburg congratulate all the award-winning schools and all participating students on their commitment to a safe and environmentally friendly route to school.
