EDW and companies swap jobs for a day – goal: more opportunities on the primary labor market
DARMSTADT – On Thursday (September 25), around 50 representatives from companies and institutions swapped jobs with employees of the Darmstadt Workshops and Residential Facilities (EDW) during the nationwide "Shift Change" . The goal is to raise awareness of the abilities of people with disabilities and promote greater inclusion in the labor market.
Experience everyday working life and break down barriers
In the EDW workshops, participants were able to experience the wide variety of activities for themselves: from packaging dowel plugs and assembling Plexiglas samples and birdhouses to the precise pre-assembly of screws, nuts, and washers – sometimes even blindfolded. This demonstrated how workplaces can be individually adapted to support performance.
At the same time, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Employment Agency and contact points for employers provided information about funding opportunities and chances for permanently employing people with disabilities in the primary labor market.
Voices on the day of action
EDW Operations Manager Wolfram Cuntz emphasized: "Perhaps new working relationships will also make it possible for more people to move from the workshops to the primary labor market."
Mayor Barbara Akdeniz praised the campaign: "When people meet, talk, and work together in everyday life, we move closer to an inclusive society. The day of action helps to highlight the skills and talents of people with disabilities."
Sustainable contacts possible
Companies can also collaborate with EDW independently of the shift change. Interested parties can contact the workshops directly by email at edw@darmstadt.de
