The film club will be showing five local short films on February 12th in the Audimax
Great cinema doesn't have to come from Hollywood: On Thursday, February 12, 2026 , Darmstadt filmmakers, together with the film club at TU Darmstadt, a special short film evening in the TU Darmstadt Audimax . It starts at 8 p.m.
Five short films by filmmakers from Darmstadt and the surrounding region will be shown 90 minutes . The program will be complemented by a discussion with some of the participating filmmakers, who will be present and offer insights into their work.
“As a student cinema, we are particularly passionate about both the local film scene and the work of young filmmakers,” explains film club member Niklas von Rhein. The short film evening follows a successful event last year, which already featured Darmstadt productions on the big screen.
The program is deliberately diverse, emphasizes filmmaker Julius Marx, who curated the selection. It will feature documentary and fictional works, ranging thematically from socio-political issues and emotional stories to musical formats. A large portion of the films are by students of the Motion Pictures at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences.
Background: Film club at TU Darmstadt
The student film club has existed since 1954 and is a fixture of Darmstadt's cinema culture. With regular screenings in the Audimax at TU Darmstadt and at the Rex arthouse cinema, as well as special events and collaborations, the club promotes the local film scene. Technically, the film club has access to a wide range of equipment – from 16mm and 35mm film to 4K digital projection and 7.1 surround sound .
