South Hesse Championship: Only Dieburg was stronger – Gräfenhausen qualifies for state level
The Gräfenhausen skat club achieved a strong second place at the South Hesse Skat Association team championship on the weekend of March 8th and 9th, 2025. A total of 13 teams from South Hesse competed in six rounds of 48 games each to secure one of the eight coveted qualifying spots for the Hessian championship.
The 1st SC Dieburg proved particularly dominant, fielding five teams and securing the top spots on the very first day of competition. However, Gräfenhausen 1 put up a strong fight: After day one in fourth place, they were only 1,486 points away from third and 1,689 from second. On Sunday, the skat players from Gräfenhausen – or "Grewweheiser," as they are known locally – stepped up their game considerably, racking up 8,902 points across two rounds. This earned them the runner-up title and a comfortable qualification for the next level.
The best individual player from Gräfenhausen 1 was Sascha Dechert with 7,074 points, followed by Thomas Brückner (6,618 points), Jürgen Führer (5,362 points), Martin Steiger (4,815 points) and substitute player Andreas Färber (659 points).

The second team of the Skatfreunde Gräfenhausen finished in 11th place with 19,403 points. The team members were Peter Neumann, Klaus Klingelhöfer, Henry Deutzer, Michael Geißer and Kerstin Banyay.
The next games are already scheduled: On September 6th and 7th, 2025, the eight best teams will compete in the Hessian Team Championship in Korbach.
