Annual report 2025 shows high demand for support and services against loneliness
The Darmstadt City Council has taken note of the 2025 annual report of the Social Services and Counseling Center (SuB). The report shows that the municipal counseling center remains an important component of elderly care in Darmstadt. A total of 3,515 contacts were recorded last year.
The Social Services and Advisory Center is aimed at people aged 65 and over, as well as their relatives, and provides support with various questions related to life in old age. The consultations are often individualized and address complex life situations. Topics include information on social benefits, assistance with applications, organizing support in daily life, and housing advice.
According to the city, the need for support among older people increased further in 2025. This was particularly evident in the areas of dealing with official and insurance documents, health issues, digital services, and managing everyday challenges.
“It is very important to me that older people receive support in applying for the benefits to which they are entitled. Especially in old age, participation is the best way to prevent loneliness. To guarantee this, many people work hand in hand, both as volunteers and as professionals,” explains Mayor Barbara Akdeniz.
More than 2200 participants in senior citizen programs
In addition to providing personal advice, the service center also organized numerous events and social activities for senior citizens in 2025. The aim is to create opportunities for exchange, learning, and active participation. At the same time, it seeks to promote social contacts and prevent loneliness in old age.
A total of 56 events were attended by approximately 2200 people.
A key focus of the work last year was the complete revision of the "Guide for Senior Citizens." This was merged with the annually published "Program for Senior Citizens." The aim is to present information more clearly, avoid duplication, and make it easier to keep content up to date.
The guide and the current senior citizens' program can be accessed via the Digital Town Hall of the science city of Darmstadt.
