The German-Israeli Society calls for participation on January 14th at Luisenplatz
The German-Israeli Society (DIG) – Darmstadt Working Group supports a solidarity rally with the Iranian freedom movement , which will take place on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 , at Luisenplatz in Darmstadt . The rally begins at 5 p.m. The event is being organized by liberal Iranian exiles.
Philip Krämer , chairman of the working group, will speak on behalf of DIG Darmstadt
Protests in Iran and international responsibility
According to the German-Israeli Society (DIG) in Darmstadt, the renewed nationwide protests in Iran clearly demonstrate that the regime there responds to the legitimate demands of its own population with violence, mass arrests, and systematic intimidation. A state that acts in this way has lost all political legitimacy and is in open conflict with its own society.
Furthermore, the German-Israeli Society (DIG) views the Iranian regime as a key source of instability in the region. Tehran supports terrorist organizations, openly threatens the State of Israel, and spreads violence beyond the borders of the Middle East. Europe is also affected: Iranian actors have repeatedly been involved in espionage, surveillance, and attack planning on German soil – including against institutions of the German-Israeli Society.
Clear solidarity with the freedom movement
For the German-Israeli Society (DIG) in Darmstadt, solidarity with the Iranian freedom movement is therefore a matter of democratic, security, and human rights responsibility. An end to the oppression in Iran is inextricably linked to the security of Israel and the stability of the entire region.
Philip Krämer explains:
“A regime that murders its own population, persecutes opposition figures worldwide, and openly calls for the destruction of Israel cannot be a legitimate actor in the international community. Fundamental political change in Iran is the only realistic prospect for freedom for the Iranian people and for détente in the region.”
The DIG Darmstadt calls for a visible sign of solidarity with the people of Iran on January 14th and for people to stand up together for freedom and human rights.
