Jorin Sandau plays works by Bach, Reger, Hindemith and other composers
The organ weeks at St. Ludwig Church in Darmstadt begin on Saturday, August 29, 2026 , with a concert entitled "Orpheus and 'The Manes of Bach'" . Regional cantor Jorin Sandau will open the series at 6 p.m. with a program that combines music from the Baroque period to the 20th and 21st centuries.
The program includes works by Paul Hindemith, Max Reger, and Christian Heinrich Rinck, among others, which establish connections to the Rhine-Main region. At the same time, the concert commemorates the two composers Hans Werner Henze and György Kurtág, whose 100th birthdays are being celebrated this year.
The program is complemented by organ works from the Baroque period by Johann Sebastian Bach and Nicolaus Bruhns.
Pre-concert talk at 5:30 pm
Before the actual concert, Jorin Sandau will give an introduction at 5:30 pm , explaining the background to the program and the selected works.
The opening concert will then begin at 6 p.m. in St. Ludwig Church, Darmstadt. Admission is free; donations are welcome.
