The kick-off event for the ISEK in Weiterstadt attracts great interest
The Riedbahn district in Weiterstadt has officially entered the development process of the Social Cohesion funding program. The kick-off event for the Integrated Urban Development Concept (ISEK) took place on February 24th at the JUZE Riedbahn youth center and attracted considerable interest.
More than 50 citizens participated in the event to learn about the project and to contribute initial ideas for the further development of the neighborhood.
Development concept for the neighborhood
The event was opened by Mayor Niklas Gehnich. Subsequently, the commissioned consulting firm DSK Deutsche Stadt- und Grundstücksentwicklungsgesellschaft presented the content of the funding program and the planned work steps.
The Integrated Urban Development Concept (ISEK) is the central basis for the upcoming measures. It is to be developed jointly with the residents of the neighborhood during the course of 2026 and forms the basis for funding from the federal and state governments.
The program is designed to last approximately ten years and enables extensive funding measures for the development of the district.
Citizen participation planned
The event also included the presentation of the Diakonie's new neighborhood management program, which is intended to support the local participation process.
The first opportunity to participate will be on March 14th . Residents are invited to a neighborhood walk. The meeting point is at 11 a.m. at the JUZE Riedbahn youth center .
Closing discussion
At the conclusion of the kick-off event, participants gathered around a fire pit in front of the youth center for drinks and snacks and conversation. A mini-survey accompanying the event collected initial feedback on issues requiring immediate attention and on potential future prospects for the neighborhood.
The event clearly demonstrated that the further development of the Riedbahn railway relies on the active participation of the residents.
