Temporary urban garden creates a consumption-free space until the end of October
A new temporary summer garden has been set up on Ernst-Ludwigs-Platz, commissioned by the City of Darmstadt . The area of approximately 120 square meters along the Kaufhof department store was colorfully designed by the artist Leonardo Wassermann and furnished with 20 seats , 10 planters , and 10 folding tables .
The “Darmstadt Summer Garden” invites visitors to linger, breathe deeply and meet others until the end of October – without any obligation to consume.
Revitalizing the city center through urban greenery and furnishings
The project aims to make the area around the former Kaufhof department store more attractive and to temporarily revitalize and make the city center more accessible . Darmstadt Marketing GmbH will manage the summer garden , while an external service provider will be responsible for plant maintenance .
The project is financed by a funding program aimed at revitalizing the city center. After the project ends, the mobile elements – including the trees – reused at other locations within the city .
A permanent redesign of Ernst-Ludwigs-Platz is planned from the end of 2025 .
