Autobahn GmbH warns of long traffic jams on the A3, A5, A7, A8 and A9 from July 26th
According to the Federal Autobahn GmbH, the peak summer travel season is imminent. With the start of summer holidays in all German states at the end of July, a significant increase in traffic is expected on German highways over the next two weeks.
Berlin, Brandenburg, and Hamburg will be the first states to begin their school holidays, followed by Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Schleswig-Holstein. Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria will also start their summer holidays on July 31st – marking the peak of travel across Germany.
First wave of travelers from the north starting on July 26th
The Autobahn GmbH expects traffic to remain relatively light on Thursday, July 24. The first major wave of travelers from northern and northeastern Germany is expected on Saturday, July 26. also expected on many routes Sunday, July 27

The situation worsens with the start of the school holidays in southern Germany
With the start of the school holidays in Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria , a significant increase in travel traffic is expected again Thursday, July 31st Friday, August 1st .
Traffic experts anticipate the peak on Saturday, August 2nd , with widespread traffic jams and slow-moving traffic. Sunday, August 3rd . The situation will be particularly critical where holiday traffic from southern Germany overlaps with the first waves of travelers returning to northern Germany – especially on the A3, A5, A7, A8, and A9 .
Recommendation: Adjust travel times and prepare well
