So that the bathing fun for children does not become a danger, the regional council (RP) Darmstadt now checked swimming aids from retail and online platforms randomly-with a partly sobering result: in particular, products from online trading have considerable labeling of labels that are safety-relevant.
Missing information on online products

Particularly serious: Many online products were not labeled in German or were available completely without understandable information. The focus of the RP Darmstadt will be increasingly on the control of such online products , as these are particularly susceptible to violations of the rules.
Labeling obligation for toys and protective equipment
The legal requirements differ depending on the product:
- Toy swimming aids (e.g. swimming rings) must be provided with the CE sign , a German article name , the address of the EU product manager ( e.g. use only under the supervision of adults! ”) And an operating instructions in German .
- Personal protective equipment such as life jackets, wings or slices is subject to stricter requirements. In addition to the information mentioned above, you must contain a declaration of conformity or make it available online. specification of the EN 13138-1 standard and pictograms for correct application are also mandatory
An important note for consumers: age and weight information should always be taken into account when buying.
Consumer protection and fair competition
The market monitoring by the RP Darmstadt is part of a Europe -wide system for product safety. It not only protects consumers , but also ensures fair competition towards reputable manufacturers and dealers. "Unsafe cheap products must not get an advantage," said the regional council.
