After the Pfungstadt fair, training begins at the Bessungen district swimming pool – all courses are already fully booked
for the swimming courses offered by the DLRG Pfungstadt (German Life Saving Association). Courses have been running at the Bessungen district pool since September 21, 2026. According to the DLRG, all courses are currently fully booked, and there are already waiting lists.
The first groups start at 6 p.m. simultaneously in the teaching pool and on the swimming lanes. The program continues until late in the evening.
Local group leader Holger Heisel recommends that parents arrange a swimming course place for their child early. The DLRG Pfungstadt offers a special program for its youngest members: According to the association, anyone who joins in their first year of life is guaranteed a place in a swimming course as soon as they reach the required age.
Swimming courses offered by the DLRG Pfungstadt follow the Kerb festival
For the local group, the Pfungstadt fair traditionally marks the transition between the summer and indoor swimming seasons. Before the fair, lifeguard duty at Eicher Lake ends, and swimming lessons begin afterwards.
This year, the German Life Saving Association (DLRG) participated in the village fair with a duck theme. The local group spent six months collecting ducks for the parade and converted a trailer into a paddling pool. A total of 259 ducks, large and small, decorated the float and the walking group.
Active members of the lifeguard service, junior lifeguards, young people and members of the DLRG Griesheim participated in the parade.
Games and rescue techniques at the Pfungstadt fair
On Saturday of the village fair, the German Life Saving Association (DLRG) offered various games and information stations at the Gasthaus zur Rose. Visitors could learn about rescue equipment, familiarize themselves with swimming safety rules, and tour the motor rescue boat.
In a guessing game, participants had to determine the number of ducks on the parade float as accurately as possible. The closest guess, 246 ducks, was only 13 off the actual number of 259.
In the evening, the DLRG DJ team provided music. With the end of the fair, the local group is now focusing again on swimming instruction.
