The DWA confirms the recognition for another five years – since 1982 the facility has also served for practical training and further education.
The training wastewater treatment plant in Bickenbach has been certified for another five years by the German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste (DWA). DWA Central Managing Director Simon Sproß presented the new certificate to Association Chairman and Bickenbach Mayor Markus Hennemann, Wastewater Association Managing Director Jörg Stanzel, and training supervisor Holger Lutzi.
The wastewater treatment plant is jointly operated by the municipalities of Bickenbach and Seeheim-Jugenheim. It has been used as a training facility since 1982, and according to the wastewater association, it has been operating as a training company for approximately 50 years.

More than 150 interns have gained insights into the plant's operations since 1982. A total of 15 apprentices have completed their training there so far. Currently, two trainees are completing their apprenticeships as environmental technologists specializing in wastewater management.
Among the former trainees is Managing Director Jörg Stanzel. He began his apprenticeship as a water and wastewater specialist at the wastewater treatment plant in 1982, becoming its first trainee. He has been managing the plant for 22 years.
Training supervisor Holger Lutzi imparts his knowledge not only to trainees but also to interns from other facilities and to pupils during introductory internships.
DWA recognizes professional quality and further training
“The recognition as a DWA training wastewater treatment plant is far more than a formal step. It is a visible confirmation of the high professional quality in the operation of the plant and at the same time a clear signal of taking responsibility for training and further education in our industry,” said Simon Sproß at the certificate presentation.
The facility will thus also become a learning place for employees of other institutions, who could gain practical experience there.
Mayor Markus Hennemann emphasized the importance of water management for the public. "What is being accomplished here is highly complex, scientifically sound, technically demanding, and of central importance for environmental and health protection," said Hennemann.
