Inge Auer, Doro Hofmann and Peter Ziemainz honored
The Groß-Gerau district honored long-serving elected officials for their commitment to local politics at a special session of the district council. At the "Das Mangold" training restaurant in Bischofsheim, district council chairman Gerald Kummer and district administrator Thomas Will paid particular tribute to Inge Auer, Doro Hofmann, and Peter Ziemainz. In addition, 35 individuals who are no longer serving on the district council or district committee in the current legislative period were recognized and bid farewell.
Kummer and Will emphasized the importance of voluntary work in local politics for democracy and the rule of law. Those who are politically active for the common good not only receive approval, but increasingly also have to deal with criticism, defamation, and sometimes personal attacks.
"Local politics thrives on people who not only discuss but also listen, take responsibility, and work with great perseverance to find good solutions for the people in their communities," said District Administrator Will. Decisions made at the local level directly affect people's daily lives. At the same time, respectful interaction is crucial for the credibility of democratic processes.
Active for the district for two decades
Doro Hofmann (Alliance 90/The Greens) has been involved in numerous district committees since 2006. Her political priorities include inclusion, equal educational opportunities, and women's rights. She has served as a district council member, a member of the district committee, and deputy chair of the district council, and has participated in numerous commissions and advisory boards.
Peter Ziemainz (CDU) has also been a member of the district council continuously since 2006. The Nauheim local politician focuses particularly on financial issues and currently chairs the main and finance committee. He is also involved in various other activities, including serving on the supervisory board of the district hospital and on the advisory board for senior citizens' services. District council chairman Kummer praised his reliability, helpfulness, and constructive commitment to finding sustainable solutions.
More than four decades of involvement in local politics
Inge Auer (SPD) can look back on a particularly long career in local politics. She has been involved in the politics of the Groß-Gerau district since 1985, and has served as a district councilor since 2011. Over the decades, she has worked on numerous committees and boards.
Her political priorities include social justice, human and women's rights, solidarity, peace, and political education. "Inge Auer never stopped looking closely and persistently asking questions," said Will. Her critical yet people-oriented approach is of great value to a vibrant democracy.
Torsten Reinheimer, who has also been a member of the district council for 20 years without interruption, was unable to attend the ceremony. His award will be presented at the district council meeting on September 21, 2026.
The ceremony was accompanied musically by the jazz band "Hot Four".
