Small Tolkien Day in Eppertshausen with lectures, guests and fantasy stalls
The Tolkien Club Rhein-Main “Die Grauen Frankfurten” (The Grey Frankfurters) its 20th anniversary on Saturday, November 1, 2025 with a special “ Little Tolkien Day ” in the hall of the Adebar restaurant (Jahnstraße 2, 64859 Eppertshausen). For two decades, fans of J.R.R. Tolkien have met regularly in Darmstadt and Frankfurt to discuss Middle-earth, Elves, and Hobbits.
The anniversary will be celebrated with a diverse program – including lectures, stalls, and well-known guests from the German-speaking Tolkien community. Admission is free, doors open at 12 noon, and the event begins at 1 p.m.
Of Dragons, Hobbits and Numbers in Middle-earth
Among the speakers are well-known names such as Friedhelm Schneidewind , Robert Vogel , Jens Götz , Janika Hofmann , and Ju Honisch . The Book Rescue campaign will also have a stand.
The program includes, among other things:
- Robert Vogel: When Tolkien came to Germany – A nostalgic look back at the 1970s and the beginnings of Tolkien's popularity in Germany.
- Volkmar Kuhnle: Lord of the Rings – the Hobbits and the Critics – How the perception of Tolkien's work changed over decades.
- Friedhelm Schneidewind: Tolkien's Dragons and Evolution in Middle-earth – Mythological and biological insights into Tolkien's world.
- Matthias Pätzold: Tolkien's World in Numbers – An Analytical Approach to Middle-earth.
- Jens Götz: Playfully through Tolkien's worlds – presentation and testing of board games about Middle-earth.
A day of fantasy with passion and history

Twenty years ago, Tolkien fans from the Rhine-Main region founded the group " Die Grauen Frankfurten " (The Grey Frankfurters) within the framework of the German Tolkien Society . Since then, the members have met monthly, alternating between Darmstadt and Frankfurt, to exchange ideas in the spirit of Tolkien.
